As we continue to invest in our people, we are seeking a Human Resources Manager to lead day-to-day HR operations and contribute to the overall employee experience. This position plays a pivotal role in talent management, compliance, employee relations, and HR administration while working closely with leadership to align HR strategies with business goals.
Position Overview
The Human Resources Manager will serve as a trusted advisor and key partner to employees and leadership, ensuring smooth HR operations and an exceptional work environment. This is a hands-on role that blends strategic HR leadership with administrative execution, making it ideal for a professional who thrives in a dynamic hospitality setting.
This role operates as part of a two-person HR team alongside the Director of Human Resources, with additional support from a general office administrator. The HR Manager will oversee recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, compliance, training, employee relations, and HR initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Oversee full-cycle recruitment, including posting jobs, screening candidates, conducting interviews, and managing offers.
- Manage the recruitment calendar for internal and external hiring events, including job fairs and partnerships.
- Maintain the Careers page and job postings in Paychex to ensure an accurate representation of open roles.
- Support succession planning initiatives and collaborate with managers on workforce projections.
- Manage weekly staffing updates, including tracking open positions and recruitment progress.
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Act as a trusted HR resource for associates and managers, handling employee relations concerns, coaching, and performance management.
- Conduct week 1 and 30-day check-ins for new hires, ensuring a smooth transition and providing feedback to leadership.
- Develop and oversee employee engagement programs, including milestone celebrations, recognition initiatives, and social events.
- Oversee employee suggestion/comment programs, ensuring feedback is addressed constructively.
- Assist in investigating harassment, discrimination, and other employee concerns while maintaining confidentiality and compliance.
HR Administration & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, proactively addressing risk and regulatory requirements.
- Manage I-9 verification, terminations, and personnel record maintenance, including audits and reporting.
- Conduct and oversee quarterly certification audits, annual labor posters, and unemployment claim management.
- Assist in HR handbook reviews and updates to align with policy and compliance changes.
- Work with payroll and benefits teams to oversee benefit administration, ACA compliance, and leave tracking.
Training & Development
- Coordinate and oversee new hire orientation and HR training programs for staff and managers.
- Schedule and track mandatory training, including sexual harassment prevention training and HR 101 for new managers.
- Support leadership development through ongoing training and certifications for department heads.
HR Reporting & Systems Management
- Maintain HR metrics and reporting systems, including turnover reports, staffing projections, and compensation analytics.
- Ensure timely data entry into Paychex HRIS, including onboarding, job changes, and terminations.
- Oversee monthly and bi-annual HR audits, including I-9, tip pool, and locker audits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years of progressive HR experience, including employee relations, compliance, and HR administration.
- Knowledge of California labor laws and compliance best practices.
- Proven ability to manage HR operations independently in a fast-paced hospitality setting.
- Experience with HRIS systems (Paychex preferred), recruiting platforms, and benefits administration.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage sensitive employee situations professionally.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small HR team.
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent certification is a plus.
